After knocking off Dodge City in the second game of a double header for their first Western Athletic Conference win of the season, the Lady Redskins had a chance to make it two in a row in a make-up game against Garden City Friday, but Liberal fell short 5-2.

Liberal lost to Garden City earlier in the season in a double header, 7-3 and 14-4. But the Lady Redskins have shown some improvement late in the season by battling teams early before allowing errors to lead to big innings.

The defense played better against Dodge City in a double header split Thursday in an 8-1 loss and a 17-7 win.

Tanner Harding and Zoey Torres combined to only allow five runs against Garden City Friday, but they couldn’t generate runs in the loss.

Harding pitched two innings and allowed six hits, a walk and a hit batter while striking out three.

Torres pitched five innings and allowed one hit and a walk while striking out three.

Lizzie Mannel led Liberal at the plate with three hits. Harding, Lexi Miller and Torres each had two hits. Madalyn McCarter, MacKenna Alexander and Avah Herrera each had a hit allowing the Lady Redskins to outhit the Lady Buffaloes 12-7.

Liberal is the 13th seed and will face No. 4 Washburn at 4:30 p.m. today.
