The Kansas Department of Transportation reminds motorists that the speed limit on U.S. Highway 83 through the construction project south of Garden City has been reduced to 55 mph until further notice.

The reduced speed limit applies from Annie Scheer Road to Garden City. Speed limit signs are posted in the project area. Motorists should expect construction traffic entering and exiting the roadway and are encouraged to slow down, stay alert and allow extra travel time.

The project spans approximately 12.7 miles, from about 2.5 miles north of the Haskell-Finney county line to the bridge over the Arkansas River. Work includes reconstructing and realigning U.S. 83 into a Super 2 highway with side-by-side passing lanes.

KDOT will provide updates on traffic impacts as work progresses.

Spore Land Development Inc., of Oakley, is the contractor on the $44.5 million project, which is expected to be completed by the end of October 2027, weather permitting.
