Joan Root Courkamp, 90, passed away on July 15, 2026, at Shepherd’s Center in Cimarron. 

Joan was born Aug. 7, 1935, in Walsh, Colo. to Clarence and Mary Margaret (Failes) Root.

She graduated from the Colorado State College and was a lifelong learner who believed deeply in the value of education and personal growth.

ULYSSES – Carolina “Carol” Romero, 69, died Monday, July 27, 2026 in Ulysses. 

She was born May 12, 1957 to Juan and Petra (Hernandez) Asebedo.

She married David Romero Jr. Nov. 12, 1971. He preceded her in death.

Jack Eugene Reynolds, 85, died Wednesday, July 22, 2026 in Hugoton. 

He was born Dec. 24, 1940 to Arthur and Dorothy (Horton) Reynolds. 

He was proud of many achievements, including his time serving in the National Guard as a sergeant and operating his own farm.

JOHNSON – Olivia Jane Staats, 9 days old, died Thursday, July 22, 2026 at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. 

She was born July 13, 2026 to Ryan Staats and Vera Harlan.

Though her time on earth was brief, Olivia filled the lives of her family with immeasurable love.

Survivors include her parents; siblings: Genna, Rhysand, Brooklyn and Beau; grandparents: Zach and Tracy Harlan, and Shawna and Bryan Smith; and great-grandparents: Kenny and Jina Harlan, Linda Harlan, David Kitch and Donna Lightner.
