Special to the Leader & Times

The Liberal Fire Department recently received a $2,375 grant award from Black Hills Energy and the Black Hills Corporation Foundation.  The funds will be used to outfit our firefighters with safety goggles and face and neck shields to be used in wildland/grassland firefighting situations.

A check presentation by local Black Hills Energy employees was made at Station No. 1.

“On behalf of Black Hills Energy and the Black Hills Corporation Foundation, it was our honor to present this contribution in support of our local firefighters, both full-time and volunteer,” Gas Operations Supervisor Elyse Torres said. “While no contribution can fully reflect the value of their service or the sacrifices they make, our Funds for Firefighters program is designed to help provide resources that strengthen emergency response capabilities and support those who give so much of themselves to the communities they serve. Because of your efforts, our communities are safer, stronger and more resilient every day. We are honored to stand alongside you as partners and supporters. Please accept this contribution as a small token of our heartfelt appreciation for all that you do and for the positive impact you make in the lives of so many.”

“We are very appreciative of this generous contribution toward the health and safety of our firefighting personnel, and we look forward to continuing our long-standing relationship with Black Hills and their employees for the benefit of the community,” Liberal Fire Chief Kelly Kirk said.
