LETTER TO THE EDITOR, Jim Rice, Liberal

After consultation with the county attorney and the members of the recall team, we have decided not to pursue the effort recalling Seward County Commission Chair Steve Helm as a large portion of our concerns have been addressed and satisfied. The continued effort to see Seward County was following the strict landfill law on how

funds are to be used was satisfied at the last Seward County Commission meeting, and now we agree that the salary of the assistant county administrator is being properly funded via the General Fund.

This is not to say the issue has been completely resolved as there still remains the question of how and what are the requirements for repayment of funds withdrawn from the restricted landfill account.

Once again we ask the commission to seek expert legal advice and proceed according to law.

We have faith in Chairman Helm and our Seward County Commission that they will abide by the laws and requirements set forth in Kansas law and will proceed in refunding the landfill account as required as expediently as possible.
