TURPIN, Okla.—The Turpin Cardinals put on a dominating performance against the Clayton, New Mexico Yellowjackets with a 58-8 mercy-rule win that ended at halftime.

Turpin came out of the gate quickly and led 38-0 at the end of the first quarter. The Cardinals also forced five turnovers and recovered an onside kick. The Cardinals outgained the Yellowjackets 386 to 96 to improve to 5-0 before starting district play next Friday.

Cesar Quintana completed 14 of 22 passes for 261 yards and 6 touchdowns and ran for another. Aaron Gandarilla caught five of those passes for 137 yards and three touchdowns; Mason Barnett also caught five for 80 yards and two touchdowns. Saul Alvarado ran for 73 yards on seven rushes and caught four passes for 44 yards and a TD.

Defensively, Saul Alvarado led the way with an interception, a fumble recovery and eight tackles, including one for loss. Aaron Gandarilla recovered a fumble and had eight tackles, including one for loss; Teak Rorabaugh recovered a fumble, and had four tackled, including one for loss, Daniel Ponce had four tackles including one for loss and a sack, Max Garza had five tackles including one for loss and a sack, and Mason Barnett had two tackles for loss.

The season will continue for No.4 Turpin (5-0) this Friday against Ringwood as the Cardinals begin district play.
