Despite a strong effort from the Liberal defense, the Redskins dropped a key Western Athletic Conference soccer match against Garden City Tuesday at Redskin Field.

Garden City controlled the ball most of the first half, but the Redskin defense denied quality shot opportunities until late in the first half when a loose ball was able to allow a Buffalo to get a solid shot that made it into the net for a 1-0 Garden City lead.

Garden City played the first few minutes of the second half short one player after a red card was issued at the start of halftime, but a review seven minutes later allowed Garden City to substitute another player and return to full strength.

Like Garden controlled the ball in the first half, Liberal controlled it in the second and kept the ball deep in Buffalo territory most of the half.

Liberal had multiple corner kicks and a pair of breakaway opportunities but shots sailed wide and over the Buffalo goal.

The Redskins took a number of shots on goal but could not land one and fell 1-0.

Liberal (3-6-1) will travel to Hays Tuesday.
