L&T staff report

The Liberal Redskins baseball team moved to 4-4 after dropping a pair of Western Athletic Conference road games to Garden City Tuesday.

Liberal had a strong pitching performance from Kye Morris in Game 1 but could not provide run support in a 3-1 loss.

Morris threw six innings and allowed three runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out eight.

Despite only allowing three runs, the Redskins couldn’t get production from the offense and only managed to score one run on four hits.

Austin Dodge provided Liberal’s lone RBI with a hit in the fifth that scored Bren Kappelmann, but that’s all the offense the Redskins had in the 3-1 loss.

Morris, Kappelmann, Dodge and Bentley Betts each had a hit in the loss.

Liberal picked up the offense in Game 2, but a walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh inning led to a 5-4 loss.

After the Redskins took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third, Garden City responded with four runs in the bottom of the third to take a 4-2 lead.

Kappelmann was relieved in the third by Eathan Hernandez who threw a scoreless inning, and Bentley Betts took the mound and pitched three scoreless innings to keep the Redskins close.

Liberal broke through in the top of the seventh to tie the game 4-4 with a pair of runs, but the Buffaloes were able to beat a close throw from the outfield at home to score the game winning run.
