Special to the Leader & Times

The Redskins took fourth at the Western Athletic conference Tennis Tournament in Hays.

“It’s not the exact results we wanted,” Liberal coach David Short said. “We had to switch things up last minute so lost our No. 1 doubles team that would have dominated. We still played hard all around and competed with a freshman, three sophomores and two seniors. Such a close WAC.”

TEAM RESULTS

Garden City 9 pts

Great Bend 9 pts

Dodge City 9 pts

Liberal 8 pts

Hays 6 pts

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS

No. 1 singles Aron Duque went 2-2 for 3rd place

No. 2 singles Frankie Landers finished 0-4 in his first varsity tournament.

No. 1 doubles Diego Flores & Aaron Munoz finished 1-3 in their first tournament together.

No. 2 doubles EJ Contreras & J’Kobe Contreras continued their hot streak and finished 4-0 for the WAC championship.

“We were one point away from first place,” Short said. “A couple tie-break losses go the other way and we have it. Next year.”
