Harriette (Stanley) Swim Howland, 99, formerly of Liberal, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2025, in Edmond, Okla.
She was born Aug. 20, 1926 to Fred and Lura (McReynolds) Stanley in Dodge City.
She graduated from Montezuma High School and attended the University of Kansas, where she met her first husband, Paul Swim, who passed away in 1955 while serving as a captain in the U.S. Air Force.
She was devoted to her family and her church. She was known for her beautiful soprano voice and fabulous holiday dinners.
She enjoyed working at Fred’s Stanley Motors; Bud’s Stanley Jewelry; and assisting Shannon Howland, husband, and Jim Goddard, son-in-law, and in the sales department at Kelly’s Mens Wear during the Christmas season.
She also served on the hospital auxiliary at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal for many years.
She enjoyed playing bridge, singing, and playing the piano.
Survivors include her children: Janet (Swim) Goddard, Edmond, Okla., John Swim and wife, Sue, Tuscumbia, Ala., and Cheryl (Howland) Burch, Osborne; grandchildren: Curt Goddard, Allison Goddard, Melissa Swim, Heather (Swim) Wolgamott, Elizabeth (Swim) Greaser, Barry Swim, Ryan Burch, and Shane Burch; great-grandchildren: Sarah Goddard, Emilie Goddard, Natalya Burnett, Christina Collums, Braden Darnall, Jackson Wolgamott, Riley Wolgamott, Jace Wolgamott, Olivia Greaser, Nora Greaser, Jacob Greaser, Crystal Swim, Annie Swim, and John Paul Swim; great-great-grandchildren: Me’a, Addlynn, Aliyah, Bryson, Legend, Kinsley, Dream, Thomas, and Brooklyn; nieces, Christine Stanley (and family) and Patricia (Howland) Sizemore (and family); and many other family and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; three siblings: Mac Stanley, Bud Stanley, and Coleen Darro; and her husband of 50 years, Shannon Howland.
• Harriette and Shannon’s ashes will be buried in the C.E. Howland family plot in Liberal this summer.
