Mary Frances Chambers Light, 97, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026.

She was born June 5, 1928 to Robert and Mary Helfrich Chambers.

She graduated as salutatorian from Rolla High School and then attended business college in Denver.

She married James Light in 1947. He preceded her in death.

In January of 1961, she was one of the members of the Morton County band, which represented Kansas in the Kennedy inauguration parade in Washington D.C.

She was known for her kindness and generosity, helping with many funeral dinners, bridal and baby showers.

Her love for her church was clear, and she served as the church organist for 50 years, as well as a Sunday school teacher and church secretary.

She was a creative lifelong learner and pursued new interests with enthusiasm. She took up painting landscapes in her 50s and, in her 80s, taught herself how to use a computer to stay connected with others. She was a member of the Richfield Study and Social Club and EHU.

She also enjoyed teaching piano, sewing, playing games, and writing letters to family and friends.

Survivors include six: Ronald Light and wife, Sharon, Courtney Light and wife, Karen, Marcus Light and wife, Beverly, Kevin Light and wife, Jackye, Nolan Light, and Megan Tucker and husband, Michael; 16 grandchildren: Ashton Light , Shari Light, Jamee Floyd and husband, Justin, Jacob Light and wife, BethAnn, Tyler Light, Kelsey Merker and husband, Andrew, Whitney Stilwell and husband, Larry, Steffan Light and wife, Tara, Lyndsay Sprecher and husband, Dillyn , Meredith Light, Robert LeNeve and wife, Shome, Erica Salazar and husband, Robert, Sterling Light, Nicole Dickie and husband, Daniel, Andrew Tucker and wife, Jen, and Kathryn (Katy) Tucker; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many other family and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Nathan; and sisters, Coral Bucher and Hope Anderson.

• Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2026 at Rolla Methodist Church in Rolla, with Pastor Patty Lahey presiding. Funeral service will be livestreamed on Robson Funeral Home's Facebook page and on www.robsonfuneralhome.com.

Burial to follow at Rolla Cemetery in Rolla.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, 2026 at Robson Funeral Home in Hugoton.

A memorial has been established for Rolla Pentecostal Holiness Church, in the care of Robson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.
