James ‘Jim’ Hughes, 84, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026.
He was born June 23, 1941 to Richard and Bernice Ruzowski Hughes.
He loved working with his hands, remodeling and painting, and was equally skilled at being a mechanic and working in the oil fields.
He enjoyed fishing, water skiing, and spending Sundays watching football.
Survivors include his children: Sherri Martin and husband, Larry, Canyon, Texas, Sheila Henke, Amarillo, Texas, Kenneth Hughes and wife, Dixie, Nebraska, Jim Hughes and wife, Lajuan, Arkansas, Kent Hughes of the Philippines, and Lori Walters and husband, Jim, Ulysses; 10 grandchildren: Caressa Jays, Deidre Martin, Kaylan Cornell, Keithan Martin, Matt Hughes, Ben Walters, Jessica Frieb, Ashley Walters, Dustin Fisher, and Hailee Henke; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Bill Coble; son, James William ‘Jimmy’ Hughes; and great-granddaughter, Beatrice Martin.
• Memorial services took place Monday, Feb. 9, 2026 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon, Texas.
