Kansas Medicaid program expands coverage to include doula services

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) is pleased to announce that the state Medicaid program, known as KanCare, will now cover doula services.

The coverage, which becomes effective July 1, will allow Medicaid beneficiaries in Kansas to have access to a range of doula services designed to provide crucial support during pregnancy, labor, delivery and the postpartum period, while enhancing the overall health care experience for expectant mothers.

Senators introduce legislation to better inform students on military career options

Serving in the military is a viable career path for many young people, and recently, some legislation was introduced to help with just that.

Wednesday, U.S. Senators Jerry Moran, Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), Mitt Romney (R-Utah) and Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) recently introduced legislation to help states access military enlistment data to better inform students on military careers.

Seward County firefighters receive more than $159,000 from Kansas Department of Insurance

TOPEKA – Kansas Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt announced Thursday, the Kansas Department of Insurance has made its annual distribution to local Firefighter Relief Associations (FRAs).

Pursuant to the Kansas Firefighters Relief Act, $159,208.99 has been distributed among two local FRAs throughout Seward County.

Animal control issue leads light city commission agenda

The Liberal City Commission made an easy time of its agenda at its most recent meeting Tuesday evening.

Before the agenda’s new business, the commission heard from a pair of concerned citizens regarding animal control.

Bird watching event coming to Arkalon Park

Those interested in ornithology will soon have the perfect opportunity to share that with others.

There will be a birding presentation and nature walk for the community Saturday, July 6 at Arkalon Park. The event will start at 9 a.m. with a presentation from Audubon of Kansas Director Dr. Jackie Augustine, followed by a nature walk at 9:30 a.m. Participants will meet at the bird sanctuary lo in the park’s campground area.
