Southwest Medical Center is pleased to announce that Dr. Peter Phan, M.D., F.A.C.S., has joined the hospital’s team of medical professionals. Dr. Phan brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to serving the community, and we are thrilled to have him on board.

Dr. Phan’s journey into medicine was inspired by a calling he felt as a high school student in Washington State. Reflecting on his path, he shared, “For years, I wanted to serve God but didn’t know exactly which career would fit. Then one day in Sunday school, I heard about missionary doctors and it suddenly clicked. From that moment on, I focused completely on becoming a physician.”

The Liberal High School Lady Redskins volleyball team will be looking to do some rebuilding for the upcoming season, and a new yet familiar face is looking to help do just that.

Former Seward County Community College Lady Saint Jelena Čohadarević was recently announced as the new Lady Redskins head coach for the upcoming season, and she is no novice when it comes to the game.

The Liberal Area Coalition for Families is one of 10 coalitions to receive a portion of $367,000 in funding from the Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services Behavior Health Services through the Fiscal Year 2025 Kansas Prevention Collaborative-Community Initiative (KPCCI) grants.

The goal of KPCCI is to reduce and prevent substance abuse in identified communities and enrich prevention efforts across the state by implementing and sustaining effective, culturally competent prevention strategies.

Kansas Corporation Commission

TOPEKA – The Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) will host an open house and public hearing Wednesday, July 10, in Dodge City to discuss an application from Grain Belt LLC to site two 345 kV transmission lines designed to connect nearby wind and solar facilities to the Grain Belt Express line.

One line is planned to run through parts of Ford, Meade, and Gray counties (the “Meade-Dodge City Line”) and the other through parts of Ford County (the “Bucklin-Dodge City Line”).
