USDA has designated one Oklahoma county as a Primary Natural Disaster Areas for Drought.
This secretarial natural disaster designation allows the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) to extend much-needed emergency credit to producers recovering from natural disasters through emergency loans.
The Liberal City Commission needed less than 20 minutes to get through its agenda for its most recent meeting Tuesday evening.
The lone item of new business on the commission’s agenda was discussion of Resolution 2416 concerning the intent to levy a property tax exceeding the Revenue Neutral Rate.
Discussions continue on issues with roads in Seward County, and progress is being made on some of those issues.
At the county commission’s most recent meeting July 1, C.W. Harper of Kirkham Michael & Associates, the engineering firm hired by Seward County to assist with those issues, said a project on Meade Lake Road, or Road 13, was approved for funding under the Kansas Department of Transportation’s Cost Share program.

Joel Valdez and Maurilio Coronado were hired as construction manager and senior engineer respectively, and both come with a great amount of experience in highway construction.
Born and raised in Las Cruces, N.M., Joel Valdez stayed in his hometown to earn his degree in civil engineering from New Mexico State University.
