Kids College now accepting registrations, sign up early

Those looking for activities for their children to do later this summer will soon have some options for just that thanks to Seward County Community College.

Seward County Community College's annual Kids College will be Monday, July 15 through Thursday, July 18, and each day has three sessions – 8 to 9:15 a.m., 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., and then 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Kids College is for children entering first grade through eighth grade, and it's $25 for each session, which is for the whole four days. Enrollment began May 20, and those interested in signing their children up must have a notarized form, and they also need to have their ID and a copy of their insurance card. Coordinator Megan Troutner said there will be a wide variety of options for children this summer.

SCCC breaks ground on new Student Health Center

Maintaining one’s physical and mental health is becoming more and more important and recently, Seward County Community College took a step to help with just that for its students.

Last Tuesday, SCCC administration and staff hosted a groundbreaking in conjunction with its third annual Giving Day for its upcoming new Student Health Center. SCCC President Brad Bennett kicked off the event with some remarks.

Lamberto O. Flores (R) has filed his intent to run for the office of Seward County Commissioner District 5.

Stacia Long (R) has filed her intent to run for the office of Seward County Clerk.

Carrillo takes helm of Adventure Bay for summer 2024

Adventure Bay Water Park will officially open for the season this weekend, and patrons will see a new yet familiar face in the manager’s seat for this summer.

Ismael Carrillo will be the facility manager starting this summer after serving as the assistant manager for multiple years.

The USS Missouri was launched from the Naval Shipyard in Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1944, and the ship played parts in not only World War II, but also the Korean War and Gulf War throughout its half-century career in the world’s waters.

This coming Thursday, a Liberal native will officially retire aboard the historic battleship. Aaron Coffey joined the Navy in November 2000 in the branch’s nuclear propulsion program, with his boot camp taking place in Great Lakes, Ill., at the end of the summer that year.
