After two years of gathering information from the public and reviewing design options, the Kansas Department of Transportation will move forward with the following intersection and corridor improvements on the U.S. Highway 54 expansion project from Hwy. 54/U.S. Highway 83 intersection to Tucker Road:
A total of 25 area non-profits received grants recently adding up to nearly $90,000 from the Western Kansas Community Foundation (WKCF), the Kansas Health Children’s Fund and various Fields of Interest and unrestricted funds.
All of this was part of WKCF’s March grant cycle, and Program and Marketing Director Stacie Hahn explained what the foundation’s portion of the funding comes from its Community Betterment Fund is.
“It’s an unrestricted fund that was set up with the community foundation for us to utilize in our community granting processes,” she said. “We can utilize it for any need in the community. It’s not restricted to causes or organizations.”
This Saturday, Artesian Valley Health System and the Meade County Health Department are giving everyone a chance to have a variety of lab and imaging tests and immunizations done at discounted costs, with some provided at no costs.
The Meade County Health Fair is scheduled to run from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Meade District Hospital, and AVHS Marketing Director Crystal Torres said a variety of free and discounted tests.
“One of the tests they can get is an H. Pylori, which detects infections in the digestive track caused by bacteria,” she said. “We will be offering that one for $60. They can also get their blood type for $5. We will be offering Vitamin D for $40, and that measures the level of Vitamin D in your blood.”
Liberal’s Prairie View Elementary School has seen much success in its dual language program since its inception and soon, the staff will be looking to continue that success.
Prairie View Elementary School will be hosting its annual dual language lottery mandatory meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday for students who will be entering kindergarten in August 2024. The meeting is for parents living outside of the school’s boundaries and are interested in the dual language program, since parents already living inside the school’s boundaries will automatically be enrolled for next year. Parents who live outside of the boundary MUST attend this mandatory meeting to be entered into the lottery.
Last Wednesday, at approximately 1:24 p.m., officers with the Liberal Police Department and members of the Kansas Department of Corrections attempted to apprehend a subject with an outstanding warrant in the 1000 block of N. Pershing Ave.
