At this time, Kansas state statute requires businesses who sell liquor by the drink to show 30 percent of their gross sales from food.
Counties, however, have the option to remove the requirement, and in the last decade, many counties across the state have taken the issue to the ballot primarily for microbreweries, wineries and distilleries.
After 36 years of service to the United Methodist Church, Pastor Brad Bennett and his wife, Jayne, are retiring to New Mexico. Bennett has been the head pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Liberal since July 1, 2020.
Jayne volunteered her time with the Southwest Medical Center Auxiliary. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women and participated in a book club, Bible study, and community choir.
The Tri-County Electric Cooperative foundation directors met April 10 and disbursed $23,722 to 12 local organizations that applied for funds in the first quarter of 2024.
The organizations and programs funded are listed below.
• $1,000 to Cimarron Heritage Center to help with heat and air units
• $300 to Forgan Little Bulldogs for helmets and bats
Workers compensation has been a hot topic and recently, the State of Kansas took some action to help with just that.
Last Wednesday, Gov. Laura Kelly ceremonially signed Senate Bill 430, bipartisan legislation making comprehensive reforms to the state’s workers compensation system. Gov.Kelly was joined by the Kansas Department of Labor (KDOL), the Kansas National Guard, key negotiators, business groups, and labor organizations from across Kansas to celebrate the improvements.
