Much has been in the news lately of military personnel being sent to Los Angeles and Thursday, Gov. Laura Kelly announced she has joined an amicus brief with leaders from 20 states supporting California’s request for a court order blocking the president’s federalization and deployment of that state’s National Guard.
The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) named Joe Finley the new District Six Engineer. He succeeds Ron Hall, who recently became KDOT’s Director of Field Operations.
Finley began his KDOT career in 1985 as an Engineer-in-Training in Dodge City. He later served as a Construction Engineer I and then as a Construction Engineer II.
Plans are under way for the Fourth of July celebration in Liberal which will start with a 10 a.m. parade and continue with activities in Light Park until 4 p.m. Then the Bee Jays will host Dodge City at 7 p.m., and fireworks will follow the game.
There is no cost to be part of the parade.
The school year has ended, which means results from testing from the end of the year have officially come in.
Monday evening, the USD 480 school board got to hear those results from District Interventionist Jennifer Hyde.
“We had come before the board in February with the middle-of-year testing results, and we now have all the data from our end-of-year assessments,” Hyde said. “We are still waiting on the official state testing results, and we probably won't get those until November or December, and we'll share that data as soon as we get that.”
Two recent Garden City Community College graduates, including one from Hugoton, are proving a high-quality education does not have to come with a high price tag, thanks to the Kansas Promise Scholarship.
The Kansas Promise Scholarship is a state-funded, last-dollar program that covers tuition, fees, books and program-related costs for eligible Kansas residents enrolled in high-demand programs.
