Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were in Liberal Monday to follow through with President Donald Trump’s commitment to remove those who have entered the United States illegally and have committed crimes while in the United States.

According to a social media post by Liberal Mayor Jose Lara, “... up to, if not more than, five people were taken today from Liberal. The federal agents have left town for the night. I introduced myself to them and followed them out of town to Highway 83. They have every intention of returning in the coming weeks.”

The USD 480 school board made some quick work of its new business at its most recent meeting Monday evening.

After recognizing Prairie View Elementary School as a Challenge Award recipient and hearing an update from Liberal High School staff members about recent state testing (see Thursday’s edition of the L&T for a recap of this update), the first item up for the board’s approval was a request for an additional agriculture instructor at Liberal High School.

Genital human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States, and the International Agency for Research on Cancer found 13 HPV types can cause cervical cancer.

In general, HPV is thought to be responsible for more than 90 percent of anal and cervical cancers, about 70 percent of vaginal and vulvar cancers and 60 percent of penile cancers.
