A fire burned six acres and took more than 32,000 gallons of water to extinguish in mid-March in northern Seward County.
In a press release, Fire Chief Andrew Barkley said workers with the Seward County Fire District were dispatched shortly before 4:30 p.m. Sunday, March 16, to a reported vegetation fire at Road K and Road 13.
The Seward County Rural Fire District is now making it easier for residents to find information and news about the department.
At the county commission’s most recent town hall meeting March 20, Administrator April Warden said the fire district has done much updating on the county’s Web site at www.sewardcountyks.org.
OKLAHOMA CITY — A bill currently in the Oklahoma legislature would rename a section of highway in honor of Veronica Butler and Jillian Kelly.
Section 13 of Oklahoma House Bill 1486 governing the naming of memorial roads and bridges would rename a portion of Oklahoma State Highway 95 in honor of the two women who were killed almost one year ago.
March is Women’s History Month, a time to honor the contributions, resilience and strength of women throughout history.
The month is also an opportunity to recognize the challenges many women continue to face, including the negative maternal health outcomes that impact mothers, babies and families across Kansas.
A major delivery company is closing two of its facilities in Kansas later this year, forcing some of its employees to look for new work or shift where they live.
Karen T. Hill, U.S. media relations manager for UPS, confirmed the company is shutting two facilities in Dodge City and Lawrence in 2025. These facilities will close on the following dates:
• 2601 East Wyatt Earp Building in Dodge City – Tuesday, May 20.
• 331 Northeast Industrial Lane in Lawrence – Tuesday, June 17.
