The Juvenile Corrections & Prevention Services (JCAPS) program does a lot of work with youth in the community and recently, there was a change in leadership.

According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, traffic changes along U.S. Highway 83 in Garden City will begin Monday, April 7, along U.S. 83 bridge over U.S. Highway 50/50B in Garden City.
Bridge repair work will take place in two phases. During the first phase, traffic in both directions will be shifted to the northbound lanes. The loop ramp from U.S. 50 to southbound U.S. 83 will be closed beginning April 14. The closure will be in effect throughout the duration of the project.
Seward County constituents got to hear about some of what is going on with the government entity and to get answers to any questions they may have had at a recent town hall meeting hosted by the county commission.
Local residents also got to meet the county’s newest Road and Bridge director, Mark Johnson, and they got updates on road projects from Johnson and former interim Director Brock Theiner.
The spring season can be a wonderful time featuring good weather and slowly greening scenery to admire.
For the many people who suffer from spring allergies, however, that same scenery can cause multiple health issues. According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, in 2021 alone, approximately 81 million people in the U.S. were diagnosed with seasonal allergic rhinitis, more commonly known as hay fever. This equals around 26 percent (67 million) of adults and 19 percent (14 million) of children.
According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, work will resume on the U.S. Highway 54 bridge located three miles west of the west Meade city limits Monday.
A traffic change is necessary to allow the bridge repair work to take place. Temporary traffic signals will guide one-lane traffic through the work zone.
Motorists should expect minimal delays, and signs and cones will mark the 12-foot width restriction that will be in effect.
PBX Corporation & Subsidiary, of Sapulpa, Okla., is the contractor on this $847,656.44 project, which is expected to be completed by the end of spring, weather permitting.
