After a 45-minute executive session and a specially called meeting Friday, the Liberal City Commission came to an open session and voted to terminate City Manger Rusty Varnado with cause.
The motion was made by Jeff Parsons and seconded by Matt Landry.
The vote was 5-0.
Flu season is just around the corner, and many medical offices and some pharmacy businesses will be offering vaccines to help people get through the season with as little illness as possible.
One of those businesses is Liberal’s Walgreens store, and workers from the store’s pharmacy will be on hand to give flu shots at the upcoming Community Health Fair Oct. 5 at the Seward County Activity Center.
Budget time has come for the local governing entities, and the USD 480 school district is not exempt from that process.
As USD 480 Director of Business Services Nila Newton tells it, the district’s budget for the coming year is in positive shape.
Budget time is officially here, and the City of Liberal is among many, many governing entities making sure every dollar is accounted for.
According to City of Liberal Chief Financial Officer Scarlette Diseker, this year’s budget process went very well.
The race for the White House is not the only race in the Nov. 5 General Election. Voters will also be selecting members of the U.S. House of Representatives, and locally, there will be a race for the 38th Kansas Senate seat.
There is also a race for a local Seward County Commission District seat between Steve Helm and write-in candidate Bee Symons.
