Double-digit increases in assessed valuations are being used by many local elected officials to sock taxpayers with unaffordable property tax hikes, and legislators can do something about it in the upcoming special session.

The special session on tax relief called by Governor Laura Kelly for June 18 will play out like the movie Groundhog Day, starring Bill Murray. As has happened about a half-dozen times since Kelly took office, the Legislature will pass affordable income tax relief, and Kelly will find an excuse to veto it.

Governor Ronald Reagan, in his 1967 inaugural address, famously remarked, “Freedom is a fragile thing and it’s never more than one generation away from extinction.”

Reagan today might have expanded on his theme by declaring that civilization itself is both fragile and can lost by a generation that recklessly spends its inheritance while neither appreciating nor replenishing it — if not ridiculing those who sacrificed so much to provide it.

Such is the noxious epitaph of the Baby Boomer generation that is now passing after a half-century of preeminence and whose Jacobin agendas have nearly wrecked the nation they inherited.

For approximately nine months during COVID, when many people were concerned about last days, we did a detailed study of the Book of Revelation. Now, beginning last week, we present a brief overall review of the book. After John delivered the message to seven churches, the voice from heaven again spoke. ““Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after these things'" (Revelation 4:1). This verse marks the transition from John's description of "things which were" (chapters 1 to 3), to those which were yet to happen. The words spoken to John by Jesus Christ, the Son of Man and the Living One in chapters 4 and 5, give us visions of heaven, and songs that will be sung there.
