When Ronald Reagan faced questions about his age during his run for a second term, he ended all speculation in the first line of the debate with Walter Mondale by saying, “I will not make the youth and inexperience of my opponent an issue in this debate.”
The crowd laughed, even Mondale laughed, and in the first few seconds, the debate was virtually over. Reagan won a landslide victory.
For us news junkies it’s nice to know the Associated Press can take time away from its breathless recounting of every Palestinian civilian building hit by an Israeli rocket in the Israel/Hamas war to manipulate a domestic story every now and then to further its not-so-secret political agenda.
After all, the vast swath of American readers still need to be deceived about issues on our own soil, too.
South Carolina Republican Sen. Tim Scott hosted an event in Washington, D.C., marking the Juneteenth holiday, which showcased why he has been included among the candidates Donald Trump is considering as his running mate.
Juneteenth, now a national holiday, commemorates June 19, 1865, the date of the final implementation of the Emancipation Proclamation in the State of Texas. It's considered the official end of slavery in the United States.

The devil's attempts to build his kingdom and deceive humanity come to an end for a time, when he is rendered powerless.
Last night, my husband, Peter, and I went to see the play “Come From Away.” I read about it last year, waited for the day tickets were available, and bought the very best cheap seats I could buy.
I love going to the theater more than almost anything, so you might be surprised to learn my husband is not much of a theatergoer. I’ve learned, over the years, if I ask him months in advance, he imagines the date will never come and agrees to go with me — and that’s what he did when I asked him last December about this show. The show came to town last night. Peter is a good sport.
