Liberal Wrestling Club participated in three Freestyle/Greco tournaments this spring.
These tournaments were in Dodge City, Andale and Maize. The team will be taking wrestlers to compete at the State competition in Hutchinson this weekend. Junior and Cadet Men will compete on Saturday while the Women and 14-and-under boys compete on Sunday.
The results from Dodge City April 13 were:
Greco: Alyvia Holcomb, third; Ian Holcomb, fourth; Elias Holcomb, fourth; and Hugo Sanchez, fourth.
Freestyle: TJ Thomas, fifth; Ian Holcomb, fifth; Elias Holcomb, fourth; Iovani Chavez, third; Esteban Gomez, fifth; Hugo Sanchez, second; and Alyvia Holcomb, third.
The results from Andale on April 20 were:
Greco: Alyvia Holcomb, fourth; TJ Thomas, third; Ian Holcomb, third; Elias Holcomb, fourth; and Hugo Sanchez, third.
Freestyle: Alyvia Holcomb, fourth; TJ Thomas, third; Ian Holcomb, third; Elias Holcomb, fourth; Iovani Chavez, third; Esteban Gomez, second; and Hugo Sanchez, fourth.
The results from War on 54 in Maize on April 27 were:
Greco: Alyvia Holcomb, third; TJ Thomas, third; Ian Holcomb, fourth; Elias Holcomb, third; and Adriel Gomez, third.
Freestyle: Alyvia Holcomb, third; TJ Thomas, third; Ian Holcomb, seventh; Elias Holcomb, third; and Adriel Gomez, first.
“These styles are more aggressive, in my opinion, than our normal Folkstyle season,” Liberla coach Krista Holcomb said. “There are slams and throws that you can’t do in folkstyle that are allowed and encouraged during this season. Greco is all upper body, no legs can be used. I know that these kids will see a boost in their folkstyle season after participating this spring, and I am so proud of their dedication.”
Liberal Wrestling Club will be selling tickets until July 3 for two firearms, a Traeger pellet grill and more prizes such as apparel, gift certificates and more. Tickets are four for $20 and can be purchased from any club member or by calling 620-655-3850.
