L&T staff report
Due to the ever-increasing costs of production and shifts to digital platforms, the Leader & Times will print one weekly edition beginning today.
The annual subscription rate for in-town home delivery will drop to $75, so for those who paid the previous rate, subscriptions will be extended accordingly.
“This was a difficult decision,” Leader & Times Publisher Earl Watt said. “We have employees who have not seen pay increases in more than a decade as costs continue to rise, and the cost of selling the paper has remained at $1 per copy for 20 years. The model just doesn’t support three editions per week.”
However, Watt said e-editions will continue to be produced five times per week, and anyone with a home delivery subscription can add the e-edition for no additional cost.
“We will continue to provide five e-editions per week,” Watt said. “That delivery will remain the same and be extended to all print subscribers at no additional charge. Just call Leslie with your email address, and you will be added to the e-edition subscriber list and receive a digital copy five days per week along with your weekly printed copy.”
The Tuesday edition will be the weekly print edition.
“We need the support of our subscribers and our advertisers to continue so we can carry out the mission of keeping the public informed about the happenings in our community as well as what affects our taxes,” Watt said. “We will continue to play the crucial role of looking out for the community’s interests while continuing to provide the best information on a variety of platforms and sharing local advertising with the best pricing and discounts provided to the public.”
The L&T will continue to provide the legal notices to the public as well.
