November is here, fall is in full swing, and the season is filled with fun-filled events throughout the area.
Saturday evening, Liberal’s Baker Arts Center will host one of those events with the Baker Bowl Bash, something Director Misti Martin said would make for perfect fun in autumn.
As the name implies, there will be plenty of bowls to be seen and purchased during the bash.
“Some of the bowls, we’ve made at Baker Arts in our pottery studio, but all of the bowls have been painted, glazed by someone who is affiliated with Baker Arts, whether it’s a board member, staff, a volunteer,” Martin said. “We have bowls that have been painted or glazed at Seymour Rogers Middle School and at Eisenhower Middle School, and we are firing those at Baker Arts and making sure they have a food grade coating.”
Martin said these can be purchased for the price of a $35 admission ticket to the bash.
“If you purchase a ticket, it gets you a basic bowl,” she said.
Along with other activities, also appropriate for autumn, Martin said those who come to the bash can partake of a variety of soups served up during the night with their choice of toppings.
“We will have our back patio area set up with a fun fall feel,” she said. “We’ll have a s’mores station set up out there. We’ll also have baked goods for sale. We’ll have our mobile arts studio up and running, and people are welcome to stop by there and do any of the activities we have there in the studio.”
The latter parts of October brought more autumn-like weather to the area, and though November is known for an occasional cold snap, Martin said she is hoping the weather is just right for Saturday night.
“We’re hoping it’s early enough in November that the weather is perfectly cozy for getting set up with a s’more and enjoying the night,” she said.
As a non-profit, Martin said the Baker Bowl Bash came about as center leaders look for ways to creately raise funds to provide classes and staff the center to do things for the community.
“We’d seen some events like this happening around the country and thought it would be something fun to bring to Liberal,” she said.
Among other things, Martin said those who come Saturday night can expect delicious food, great activities and a place to relax, visit and hang out with friends.
“They can enjoy looking at stuff in the gallery,” she said. “We’ve got great stuff in the gallery right now. We’ve got Peggy Bell’s work. We have the National Scholastic winners on display. We have Rachel Knowles there in the gallery. It’ll be a fun night for getting out with friends and family and a low key but fun night.”
Tickets for the Baker Bowl Bash can be purchased online at www.bakerarts.org, at the center at 624 N. Pershing Ave. in Liberal or at the door the night of the event.
“We’ll have live music that night,” Martin said. “We have some high school students. We also have Jeremy Harris who will be playing for us that night. People can come, relax, enjoy the music.”
For more information about the bash, call Baker Arts at 620-624-2810, or stop by the center. Martin said she is quite excited for Saturday evening.
“I love anything that gets the community out and about together, and this is one of those perfect ways to be able to do that,” she said. “We can serve the community with an opportunity to hang out, get together, and at the same time, they can support Baker Arts.”
