Special to the Leader & Times
Ever wanted an original mural to decorate your home or business? It’s one of the many items to be auctioned off at the High Plains Heritage Foundation’s Spring into Giving Auction Night Saturday, April 25.
Artist Karem Gallo is donating a mural which she will design specifically for the buyer that can be displayed either inside or outside.
The fundraiser for the community foundation will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Marie May Events Center at 104 W. Second St. The live auction will start at 7 p.m. Admission is a free will donation.
In addition to a snack buffet that includes nachos and pork sliders, the Tortuga Brewery will be hosting a beer tasting.
“This will be a fun night to try out different beers, enjoy good food and company, and take home some great items,” Kay Burtzloff, chair of the community foundation, said.
Gallo, who is also the HPHF Executive Director, designed and executed the Liberal mural at Light Park and is donating her artistic skills and materials for the mural.
“This is an opportunity to have a very unique piece of art for your home or business,” Gallo said.
In addition to the mural, the live auction will include a Blackstone grill, an office chair, and original art pieces as well as other items. The silent auction will have a wide variety of items and gift certificates.
“This is the first fundraiser the High Plains Heritage Foundation has ever hosted,” Gallo said. “Proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to support our Giving Tuesday matching program as well as the local grants we distribute annually.”
Gallo said that HPHF gave 20 grants last year to non-profits in the foundation’s service area and gave Giving Tuesday matching grants to 12 more.
The High Plains Heritage Foundation is a community foundation serving the communities of the high plains of Southwest Kansas and the Panhandle region. It was started in 2003 and is a 501(c)3 organization.
“The foundation exists to help people with their charitable giving goals and provides significant tax advantages. From scholarships to endowed funds dedicated to community organizations, the Foundation gives you the opportunity to establish a lasting legacy,” Burtzloff said. “The foundation can accept gifts of tangible assets, such as stocks or land, as well as monetary contributions. We can work with you to include the foundation as part of your estate planning.”
