Sophomore forward Julia Astrath scored her first two goals of the 2026 season as the Seward County women's soccer team defeated Metropolitan Community College, 2-0, on Saturday morning at Redskin Field.

Seward improved to 3-1 overall and will open conference play Wednesday at nationally ranked Cowley with a 5 p.m. kickoff. Metropolitan fell to 3-3.

Astrath, Seward's scoring leader as a freshman in 2025, found her way into the scoring column with solid opportunities in the opening half.

The match was a defensive battle for much of the first half before Seward broke through in the 38th minute. Juliana Salazar delivered a pass to Astrath, who found the back of the net to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. Just more than four minutes later, Astrath scored again to send Seward into halftime with a 2-0 advantage.

Neither team scored in the second half as Seward goalkeeper Caroline Benck turned away three shots. Benck finished with eight saves while playing all 90 minutes.

The Saints recorded 13 shots, including seven on goal. Marcela De Sousa and Salazar each tallied three shots.
