Most Saturday nights find couples looking for something fun to do for a date night.
Saturday, April 11, Seward County United Way gave couples something fun to do while raising money to help local non-profit agencies.
For $50 per couple, which included all of the supplies and the first two drinks courtesy of Tortuga Brewing Company, SCUW gave couples a chance to “Paint Your Partner,” and United Way Director Patricia Fierro said officials with the agency wanted to give couples a fun idea for a date night, adding no actual painting skills were required and preferred.
“It’s pretty much enjoying yourself, compressing, relaxing and painting on your partner,” she said. “No matter how it looks, it’s just having a great time, enjoying yourself.”
Fierro said those who signed up for the event did not have any painting skills as expected.
“They want to do this for the kicks and enjoy themselves and have a good afternoon,” she said.
“Paint Your Partner” took place at Tortuga, a business which serves alcohol, but Fierro said the beverages likely had little effect on the results of the artists’s renderings.
“The first two drinks are courtesy of Tortuga,” she said. “It’s all based on the person if they wish to or not.”
Fierro said the event put the fun in fundraising.
“It’s a small fundraiser and something fun to do and letting people be creative, giving our couples something entertaining to do for a couple hours in the day,” she said.
United Way has partnered with Tortuga on several events in the past, as well as “Paint Your Partner,” and Fierro said the brewery is ideal for SCUW’s fundraiser.
“They have the space available, and they’re very easy to work with,” she said. “They’re always open to helping United Way. We’re very grateful for that. With any opportunity we have and when we’re thinking of something to do and we don’t know where, they have the kitchen. They have access to adult beverages, and that makes it a good spot.”
“Paint Your Partner” took place the same night as Liberal High School’s prom, and Fierro said the event gave adults a chance to do something fun to do on the same day.
“It’s a wonderful event as are all of United Way’s events,” she said. “The teenagers will be getting theirs. This will give the parents something to do as well.”
Fierro said the event gave people a time to decompress, and she said she saw many happy people enjoying themselves with laughter and having a great time.
“It’s couples and friends coming together to have a great time,” she said.
Prior to the beginning of “Paint Your Partner,” Fierro said she was excited to see what would become of the night.
“I can’t wait to see what those portraits are going to look like,” she said.
