L&T staff report
With the deadline to register to be a candidate looming, two of three Seward County Commission races have no candidates.
The deadline to register as a candidate is June 1, and so far no candidate has filed for Dist. 2 or Dist. 3. Dist. 4 has one candidate, Jose Lara, in the Democratic primary.
The seats were filled by appointment in January after commissioners Scott Carr, Tammy Sutherland-Abbott and Presephoni Fuller resigned.
Since all were Republicans, the Seward County Republican Party called three conventions of the precinct committee members to appoint replacements. Clay Louderback was appointed to fill Dist. 2, Jairo Vazquez was selected in Dist. 3, and John Mettlen was selected to represent Dist. 4.
As of press time, none had filed to retain the seats.
To become a candidate, pick up a packet at the Seward County Clerk’s office prior to June 1.
A primary will take place in August with the general election in November.
