JOHNSON – Martie Brent Floyd, 78, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026 at his home in Johnson. 

He was born August 7, 1948 to R.D. and Evelyn Winger Floyd.

He graduated from Johnson High School in 1966. He later graduated from KU in 1970 with a double major in history and political science.

He married Diane Nonken June 13, 1970. She survives.

In 1976, Martie and his brother Gary formed M&G Farms, and he never lost his confidence in or love of southwest Kansas agriculture.

In 1990, he became a director of the First National Bank of Liberal and Kansas Bank Corporation. He remained involved with Dream First Bank and Legacy Financial Co.

He became involved in the American Agriculture Movement in the late 1970s. Later his service included the USD #452 School board, Johnson Cooperative and Skyland Grain boards, Farmland Industries, Pioneer Electric Cooperative, the Stanton County Hospital Board, WEKANDO economic development organization, and the Stanton County Commission. He was also member of Kansas Agricultural Rural Leadership Class One and served on the board in later years.

He and Diane treasured family trips with their children and grandchildren, and he took particular satisfaction when the grandkids continued talking about those trips years later.

He was a member of Johnson United Methodist Church and served on many committees.

Survivors also include son, Chris and Dara Floyd, Johnson; daughter, Jennifer Floyd, Johnson; grandchildren: Haley and husband, Nathan Forrest, Jayden and wife, Paige Rios, Dylan Floyd, Jarren Rios, and Jaxson Rios; great-grandson, Hogan Forrest; brother, Gary (Marla) Floyd, Johnson; brother-in-law, Dave Mann, Quinter; and many other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Roetta Mann.

• Memorial services took place Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026 at the Johnson First United Methodist Church, with Pastor Jacques Kambol presiding.
