ULYSSES – Monica Marie (Holland) Rowton, aka: “Me-Mo,” 86, died Sunday, March 15, 2026 at Kearny County Hospital in Lakin.
She was born Dec. 9, 1939 to F.D. and Ruth Holland.
She graduated from Scott County High school in 1957.
She married Keith Rowton Aug. 29, 1959 at St Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City. He preceded her in death July 19, 1984.
She worked as a telephone operator at St. Catherine Hospital and as a secretary for KGLD TV.
The couple moved to Ulysses in October 1964 and there, she worked at McCall Liquor Store as a clerk. eventually being promoted to manager.
She managed Hillcrest Manor Trailer Court. For two years, she also drove Bus #13.
She loved helping people and also enjoyed doing yard work, planting flowers, etc.
She also enjoyed bowling and playing Bunco.
She was an avid shopper and was always determined to find just the right gift to make a person feel extra special. She was artistic, creative and a great seamstress. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include daughter, Kendra Euliss and son-in-law, John, Ulysses; sisters, Frankie (Holland) Rowton and husband, Jim, Leoti, and Debbie (Holland) Bush and husband, Lance, Garden City; granddaughter, Starla Burnum and husband, Douglas Burnum, Ulysses; grandson, Keith Euliss, Ulysses; great-grandson, Ethan Burnum, Ulysses; sister-in-law, Lyla (Rowton) Burch and husband Les of Hartshorne, Okla.; “adopted” daughter, Pam (Mader) Ellis; “adopted” grandchildren: Jeremy Taylor, Tesley (Taylor) Rupp, Monica Teeter, Airen Moon, Amanda Farmer-Hamilton, Kristi Kerst-Day, Adrienne (Annie) Rodriguez; and numerous others who called her Me-Mo; “adopted” sisters, Delores Mader and Charlene Becht; beloved 15-year-old fur baby, Kaidyn (L.B); and many other family and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two great-grandchildren; twin baby brothers, Walter and Daniel Holland; nephew, Roy Rowton; brother-in-law, Kenneth Rowton; father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Mary Rowton; sisters-in-law, Adeline Mays and Georgia Griem; nieces, Vicki Burch and Nancy Griem; and nephew, Werner Burch.

Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2026 at Garnand Funeral Home.
Funeral Mass will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses, with Father Eric Gyamfi presiding. Graveside services will follow at 4:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Marienthal.
