ULYSSES – Wilma N. Garrison, 88, died Monday, March 30, 2026 at Western Prairie Senior Living Memory Care in Ulysses.
She was born July 30, 1937 to Guy and Inez (Dudley) O’Neal.
She graduated from Grant County Rural High School in 1955.
She married Joe Garrison March 6, 1955. He preceded her in death.
She enjoyed gardening and faithfully planted a garden each year, along with tending to her fruit trees.
She enjoyed cooking and spent many hours canning the fruits of her labor and baking for her family.
She was an accomplished seamstress whose talent touched many in town. She handled alterations for all three local clothing stores as well as the dry cleaners. In addition to her sewing, she devoted many hours to quilting.
She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church and Community Baptist Church in Ulysses and she served in many ways, including church secretary, helping in the nursery, and was active in various ladies’ groups and dedicated many years to teaching Sunday school. She was also active with Gideon’s International Auxiliary.
Survivors include her children: Donna and Tim Sullivan, Jody and Patty Garrison, Joel Kent and Sue Garrison, Dianne and Jimmy Williams, and Jeremy Garrison; sister, Vivian Bohannon; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff of Western Prairie for their loving care.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Cecil Shepard; and sisters: Watheta Whitmore, Virginia Cannon and Wanda Mason.
• Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2026 at Community Baptist Church in Ulysses, with Pastor Steve Swann Jr. presiding.
Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2026 at Garnand Funeral Home.
