Peggy Lou Bell, 98, died Friday July 17, 2026 at Liberal Good Samaritan Nursing Home.  She was born Dec. 6, 1927 to Jude and Leone (Stokes) Gatewood.

She married Kenneth Paul Bell Nov. 25, 1948. He preceded her in death May 25, 1997.

She worked as a bookkeeper at First National Bank for 20 years before retiring in 1999.

She was a volunteer with the Southwest Medical Center Auxiliary and enjoyed painting with the Liberal Senior Center Painting Group.

She was a longtime member of the Western Avenue Church of Christ.

Survivors include son, Mark (Leah) Bell; brother, Farris Gatewood; granddaughters, Rebecca Lynn (Ben) Johnson and Ashley Elizabeth (Ben) Skow; and five great-grandchildren: Marshall Johnson, Wyatt Johnson, Annie Johnson, Clara Skow, and Owen Skow.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Foye Lee Gatewood; and sister, Patricia Neugebauer.

• Graveside services took place Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at Eastview Memorial Cemetery in Vernon, Texas.
