ULYSSES – Kenneth Patterson Jr., 89, died July 19, 2026 in Hugoton. 

He was born June 18, 1937 to Norman Kenneth and Edith (Penka) Patterson.

He married Joann Spencer Dec. 13, 1959. She preceded him in death.

He spent much of his career driving a cattle truck and working as a farmer and custom harvester. Even in his later years, he could still be found in the fields.

He was an active member of the Bit and Spur Club of Ulysses and the American Quarter Horse Association.

Survivors include his children, Norman Patterson and wife, DiAnna, and Tami Chandler and husband, Gary; grandchildren: Chris Patterson, Shawn Patterson, Seth Chandler, Shelby Chandler, Cassie Schemm, Makayla Syslo, Kelsey Clinton, Dusty Moore; great-grandchildren: Emmaline, Wyatt, Liam, Lorealie, Penelope, Gennesis; and his best K-9 companion, Jake.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Joe Bob; stepdaughters, Leann Moore and Alice Hook; grandchildren: Julie Ann, Franklin Tyrone, Wyndee, and Raynie; and great-granddaughter, Zoey.

• Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3, 2026 at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses, with Zach Zulauf and Carl Egley presiding.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, 2026 at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.
