PLAINS – Lois A. (Holmes) Packard, 92, died Saturday, July 25, 2026.
She was born Aug. 20, 1933 to Claude and Ida (Barrows) Holmes.
She graduated from Plains High School in 1951 and then attended Southwestern College in Winfield for one year.
She married Garrel A. Packard Aug. 24, 1952. He preceded her in death.
In 1971, she began her nursing education at Dodge City Community College, obtaining her Licensed Vocational Nursing degree followed by her Licensed Registered Nursing degree from Garden City Community College. She worked more than 40 years at Southwest Medical Center as a Licensed Registered Nurse.
She had a lifelong dedication to her Lord and served as a Sunday School and VBS teacher, led ladies Bible studies, and was a pianist and organist for many years.
She enjoyed gardening and reading and in recent years traveling with her sister Alice.
Survivors include son, Robert (Mary) Packard; daughters, Teresa (John) Wood and Debra (Dennis) Klein; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by son, Gary Packard; infant daughter, Kristi Packard; her parents; brothers, Claude Holmes Jr. and Howard Holmes; and sisters: Ruth Anne Kittle, Lila Parks, Joyce Holmes, and Alice Sinclair.
• Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026 at the Plains Cemetery in Plains.
Memorials are suggested to New Beginnings Church in Plains in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary in Meade.
