The Liberal High School Lady Redskin golf team traveled to Pratt on Monday for a 9-hole tournament at Park Hills Country Club. The course was certainly an issue, along with the continued heat and winds over 20 miles per hour. Park Hills CC provided a challenge that impacted the Lady Redskins - a lot of hills. “We’re simply at a disadvantage when we play courses like this,” Coach Bert Luallen stated. “I’m not trying to make excuses for the girls, but we just don’t have opportunities in our area to play shots with uphill, downhill, and sidehill lies.”

In spite of the adverse conditions, the Lady Red finished 4th as a team for the third straight tournament - just 8 strokes behind third place Kingman.

“We discussed this as a team when we returned,” said Luallen. “We tend to dwell too much on bad shots or bad holes, letting them affect the next two or three holes. You have to have a short memory and forget those things. As Ben Hogan said, “The most important shot in golf is the next one.”

Senior Rylie Friess led the way for LHS for the second straight tournament with a 50 for 4th place individually in a field of 57 golfers. She started out a little rough, as she found herself tied for 14th half way through the round. But she buckled down and played steady, making par on the final two holes. On hole #2 (her eighth hole), a par 3, she put a seven wood tee shot at fifteen feet above the hole and two putted for par. On hole #3, her last hole, she placed her drive in the middle of the fairway and put a seven-iron just off the green, pin-high to the right, just three feet off the putting surface. From there, she two-putted for par.
