Seward volleyball fell to the No. 10-ranked Barton Cougars 3-0 (13-25, 15-25, 23-25) at The Greenhouse on Tuesday evening.

The loss drops the Lady Saints to 0-2 in league play and 6-8 overall. Barton moves to 9-3 and 1-0. Seward now travels to Hobbs, N.M. for the NMJC Invitational beginning on Friday.

Seward struggled early on, trailing 15-5 in set one. The Lady Saints were unable to get many rallies going falling 25-13 in the set.

The second set saw Seward gain an early lead, 6-2. Barton quickly retook the lead 8-7 and never looked back, not trailing again in the set.

The Lady Saints got within a point late in the third set making it 22-21 but the Cougars closed things out late.

Luisa Bergantini led Seward with 15 kills on .306 hitting, also adding seven digs. Lilou Grymonpre had 10 digs and five kills. Jhulya Carlotti led the Lady Saints with 24 assists.

Seward was outhit .344 to .083. Barton had just six attack errors to Seward's 19.
