DALHART, Texas — Two turnovers and penalties were too much for the Liberal Redskins to overcome in a 34-21 loss to the Dalhart Golden Wolves.

After giving up an opening touchdown drive, Liberal responded late in the first quarter with a 29-yard touchdown pass form Bren Kappelmann to Alvin Almador to take a 7-6 lead. Dalhart scored before half to take a 14-7 lead, but Liberal opened the second half  with a scoring drive that included a 44-yard touchdown run by Isaac Casteneda for a 14-14 tie.

Dalhart responded with a touchdown, and Liberal fumbled the first play of the next drive.

Despite a defensive stop, an interception on Liberal’s next possession allowed Dalhart to score a touchdown and take a 28-14 lead.

Liberal turned the ball over on downs on the next possession at its own 16 yard line, and Dalhart scored.

Liberal added a touchdown late but fell 34-21.
