RMN Events hosts a wrestling tournament each year in Denver, CO called Cosmic Clash. This year it was held on Sept. 26 and 27. Liberal Wrestling Club took 17 wrestlers to compete over the 2 days.

“The entire team represented us well," Coach Krista Holcomb said. "We saw a lot of great wrestling. These wrestlers are hungry and ready to get matches under their belt for the season."

AC Gomez, Ian Holcomb and Kendall Mosstler all took 2nd place at the tournament, receiving All American honors. Gomez battled hard throughout the day winning with 2 major decisions, 2 decisions and 1 tech fall. Holcomb came away with 1 pin and 1 tech fall.

Other wrestlers attending the tournament were Alijah Salas, Alyvia Holcomb, Dominique Soto, Elias Holcomb, Emanuel Zetino, Gustavo Sosa, Iovani Chavez (1 pin), Isaac Torres, Julian Gonzalez, Kora Olson, Lill Osborn (1 pin), Marco Jimenez, Nathan Boese and Zoe Riddle.

“Good job to all the wrestlers today, even if we didn’t get the result we wanted. It showed us where we are at to start the season and what we need to do. Keep working and the results will come,” Coach Adrian Salas sent to the group following Saturday’s competition.

Liberal Wrestling Club is still taking sign ups from 5:30-7 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at 601 E. 15th. For more information, follow them on Facebook. The club will now focus on preparing for Panhandle Nationals in Amarillo in November with other tournament opportunities coming very soon.
