Liberal traveled top Holcomb Tuesday and earned a split with the Longhorns.

The Redskins won Game 1 by run rule, 14-2.

Kye Morris pitched five shutout innings, and after the Redskin batters couldn’t push a run across the plate in the first three innings, they erupted for seven runs in the fourth to take a 7-0 lead.

Liberal added two more runs in the fifth for a 9-0 lead.

Liberal pushed the lead to 14-0 in the top of the sixth with five more runs.

Brynn Kappelmann relieved Morris and allowed two runs, only one earned, and tow hits to secure the 14-2 run-rule victory.

Blayden Betts led the Redskins with three hits and three RBIs including a triple and a home run.

Austin Dodge, Eathan Hernandez and Kappelmann each had a double.

The Redskins overcame six errors to only two for Holcomb.

After having a strong game at the plate, the Redskins struggled to get hits in Game 2 and fell 3-2 after a last-inning rally by the Longhorns.

Liberal pushed a run across the plate in the top of the first, and the Longhorns tied the game in the bottom of the second.

The Redskins regained the lead in the top of the fourth, and the Redskins maintained the lead until the bottom of the seventh inning when the Longhorns were able to tie the game and then push the winning run across the plate, and Liberal lost 3-2.

Kale Miller started on the mound for the Redskins and pitched two-and-two-thirds innings. He allowed one run on three hits while striking out four.

Betts pitched two-and-a-third-innings and did not allow a run or a hit while walking two and striking out five.

Eathan Hernandez pitched an inning-and-two thirds and allowed two runs on three hits while striking out three.

Liberal’s three hits came from Hernandez, Betts and Dodge.

Liberal improved in the field by only committing two errors, and the Longhorns only had one.

The Redskins will travel to Hugoton today for a double header against the Eagles.
