After falling 29-2 a day earlier, the Seward baseball team responded with vengeance on Saturday. They defeated Coffeyville 20-3 in seven innings in the final game of the best-of-three series at Brent Gould Field.

With the win, Seward advances to the eight-team Plains District Tournament at Wichita State's Eck Stadium. The Saints are the eight-seed and will take on the No. 1 seed and No. 1 team in the NJCAA rankings, Johnson County, on Wednesday, May 13th, at 4 p.m. The tournament is double elimination. 2023 was the last time the Saints advanced to the eight-team tournament.

Seward outhit Coffeyville 16-6, mashing four home runs as six different Saints had multi-hit efforts.

Isai Santaella hit a grand slam finishing with five RBIs. Mason Gilbert homered and had four RBIs. Juan Alvarez was 2-5 with four RBIs including a homer. Blaine Chancy and Jacob Urias were 3-5, Urias drove in two. Jhett Huffman homered and was 2-4 with three RBIs.

Cosme Vera Jr. (W, 3-1) got the start and the win tossing 4.1 innings allowing three runs on six hits. He had a walk and a strikeout. Cooper Turner threw 2.2 scoreless innings in relief striking out four.

The Saints plated three in the second, five in the third and seven in the fourth.
