DODGE CITY – The seven-seed Seward Saints fell 11-0 in five innings to the two-seed Butler Grizzlies on Saturday evening in the Region 6 Tournament.
The Saints season comes to a close with an overall record of 21-33, a three-win improvement from last season. Seward finished 2-2 in the tournament with two losses to Butler and wins over Garden City and Colby.
Seward's offense never got going in the nightcap, finishing with just one baserunner.
Grace Horne (L, 9-15) took the loss in the circle throwing 2.0 innings allowing four earned runs on four hits. The Saints made five errors.
Butler finished with eight hits led by Haely Hagemann's 2-3 effort with two RBIs. KJCCC Pitcher of the Year Addison Chapman (W, 15-4) earned the win striking out five in three innings of work. Butler advances to the loser's bracket final, taking on Hutchinson on Sunday at noon.
The Saints see five sophomores depart in Emily Lane, Taryn Golden, Jahlisa Klear, Horne and Kaitlyn Gonzales.
