ULYSSES – Merle Milton Koehn, 97, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2024 at Bethel Home in Montezuma.
He was born September 4, 1927 to Amiel and Hannah Koehn Koehn.
He married Letha Mae Harms Sept. 12, 1948.
In 1945, he accepted Christ as his Savior, and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite Feb. 18, 1945 by Minister A.T. Koehn. On February 10, 1963, he was ordained into the deaconry by Minister Samuel Jantzen.
He was a successful farmer and businessman and very generous. He was a master gardener, and he was able to grow grapes, blackberries, raspberries and strawberries, among other crops. He continued his gardening at Bethel Home, tending a little plot with his daughter Crystal.
He as a steadfast Christian who loved and supported God’s church. He would lead the family in devotions and read the Bible every morning.
He was always busy, and if you visited him at Bethel Home, you would find him reading, or writing, or even running his scroll saw right there in his full care room.
His survivors include four sons: Les and Carol, Larry and Micheline, Randy and Janice, and Rodger and Cheryl; three daughters: Regina and David Jantzen, Julene and Bruce Koehn, and Crystal and Jeremy Giesbrecht; brothers, Leonard Koehn, and Raymond and Mary; three sisters: Neoma Amoth, Ethel Koehn, and Helen Koehn; 30 grandchildren, and 82 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and six sisters.
• Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, 2024 at the Grant Mennonite Church in Grant County, with Denton Koehn, Stuart Jantzen and Karlan Koehn presiding.
Burial will follow at the Grant Mennonite Cemetery.
