Several pounds of illegal drugs, including numerous fentanyl pills, have been seized in the past few months as part of investigations by the Seward County Sheriff’s office.
Sheriff Gene Ward issued a press release Monday stating deputies have conducted investigations into multiple drug distribution networks in Southwest Kansas and surrounding communities in an attempt to clean up the drug trade in Seward County.
August officially begins Thursday, and a new school year will be here quicker than many think.
For the remainder of the time before the academic calendar officially goes into effect, many parents will be found combing store aisles looking for school supplies to help their children have a successful year in the classroom.
For some, though, school supplies prove to be more expensive than they can afford, and this weekend, Seward County United Way is helping get items for those families.
Seward County Community College welcomes Cody Cole as its new Associate Vice President of Athletics, announced President Brad Bennett Friday.
“We’re excited to bring Cody aboard,” he said. “He brings a lot of experience in program fundraising and development, and he is excited to become part of the community.”
The Five State Free Fair is nearly here, and workers at the Seward County Fairgrounds can be seen on a daily basis making repairs and keeping buildings and grounds in good condition.
Cleaning and maintenance worker Mary Eastman said much work has been done in the Beef Barn.
“We painted and refreshed it,” she said. “We have been cleaning the chicken house, the hog pen and the sheep pens. A big thanks to Adolescent Support. They painted the sheep pins for us.”
The City of Liberal is providing fall cleanup coupons to assist residents with landfill disposal charges. This coupon is available for water utility customers to pick up in person at the administration office inside City Hall, 324 N. Kansas Ave.
This coupon covers the fee for a one-time disposal visit to the Seward County Landfill. Customers must bring their water utility bill to administration at City Hall to receive a coupon. These landfill coupons must be used by Sept. 30 and customers are responsible for hauling their items for disposal.
