Earlier this month saw severe weather move through parts of Southern Kansas and Northern Oklahoma, including a tornado that ripped through the small town of Barnsdall, Okla.
With this being the time of year for severe weather to crop up, Seward Count Emergency Services Director Greg Standard said people need to be prepared.
Those looking to take part in a good round of golf will soon have that chance in June thanks to the Liberal Chamber of Commerce.
The 2024 Chamber of Commerce Chamber Challenge Golf Tournament will be Saturday, June 15, with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. that morning, and everything will take place at Willow Tree Golf Course at 1800 W. 15th Street. The tournament is a four-person scramble format and lunch will be provided. Anyone can enter a team, with the cost being $500 per team, and that includes up to two carts, and anyone wanting to sign up a team needs to contact the Liberal Chamber of Commerce office at (620) 624-3855. Statistics show in 2020, as many as 5.8 million Americans were living with Alzheimer’s disease, with the number of people living with the disease doubling every five years beyond age 65, a number projected to nearly triple to 14 million people by 2060.
In light of such statistics, the State of Kansas recently took some action to help, with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) and the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) announcing they will be taking steps to gather professionals, as well as individuals with lived experience, to update the state’s Alzheimer’s and Dementia state plan, according to a release from the State of Kansas.
TOPEKA – The Immunize Kansas Coalition (IKC) has taken the next step in building health equity by reaching diverse communities across the state by hosting Entre Mujeres: The Health of Women, the first Spanish-language predominant conference in Kansas City.
To increase access to those in other regions of the state, a bus sponsored by Garden City Community College provided transport for women from western and central Kansas.
In Southwest Kansas until recently, Mosaic has two offices, one in Liberal and one in Garden City, operating separate agencies in both communities.
In late April, Mosaic Director Janeth Trevizo made the announcement that the two are now one agency under the name Mosaic in Southwest Kansas.
“As we continue to grow and meet the needs of more people in our community we are thrilled to align our mission and scope of service to the needs in Garden City in Liberal, Dodge City and beyond,” she said in a Facebook post announcing the name change. “That is why I am excited to share that we will be changing our name to Mosaic in Southwest Kansas.”
