Though part of the budget cuts for Seward County for Fiscal Year 2025 included not transferring just less than $1.2 million to the Special Highway Fund, Administrator April Warden said the county is still moving forward with some road projects for the upcoming year.

Those projects include an overlay project, which includes 20 miles of asphalt roads in the county, and working on Road O, a gravel road project.

Those interested in seeing Liberal’s Land of Oz in a bit of a different light will soon have just that chance.

The Coronado Museum and Dorothy’s House/Land of Oz will be hosting a Haunted Oz event from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 on the grounds of the Coronado Museum at 567 E. Cedar Street. Entry is $5 per person, and there will be games, Oz Train rides, free popcorn and candy, and a haunted tour of our Land of Oz.

Counterfeit drugs have been a problem for a while throughout the U.S. and recently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a warning about them.

The CDC is informing public health officials, clinicians, and affected patients, their families, and caregivers about a potential public health risk among individuals ordering what they believe to be prescription medications from online pharmacies, according to a release from the CDC.

Seward County Community College

Seward County Community College is nearing its highest-ever enrollment numbers, with a 17 percent increase in student head count for the current academic year. The release of official numbers from the Kansas Board of Regents this week provided plenty of good news for the college and its stakeholders:

• Increased Kansas student enrollment, which grew by 32 percent since 2020.

• Highest student head count growth — 17 percent — in Kansas (including all two-year community colleges and four-year state universities).

• Increased credit hours — 9 percent — reflect more part-time students who access flexible delivery options and staggered start dates.
