Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas

Schools across Kansas have an exciting opportunity to unite around the shared goal of student health through the Healthy Habits for Life grant program available now at bcbsks.com/hhfl.

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Foundation is offering up to $200,000 in grants to assist schools in implementing programs that promote healthy lifestyle choices to their K-12 students. These school-based programs must address at least one of four criteria: reduce cardiovascular risk, increase physical activity, learn healthy eating habits, and reinforce positive mental health among students.

The USD 480 school board made relatively quick work of its agenda at its most recent meeting Monday evening.

The meeting began with hearings regarding the Revenue Neutral Rate and the budget, and local citizen Rick Madden spoke to the board to share his thoughts.

A Ulysses man suffered a suspected serious injury in a one-vehicle accident involving a semi Tuesday morning in Morton County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, a 2005 Peterbilt semi was northbound on Road 9 just north of BB Boulevard about 10 miles south of Manter.

KHP said the semi went off the road to the right with the passenger side tires, and the driver, 67-year-old Richard Lynn Lebrun of Ulysses, attempted to steer left to return to the roadway.

The semi and trailer, KHP said, overturned on the passenger side, with both facing northwest on Road 9 blocking both lanes of travel. Rock from the semi covered the northbound lane, shoulder and ditch.

Lebrun suffered a suspected serious injury and was taken to Stanton County Hospital. He was not wearing his seat belt at the time.

There are three packages people can choose from: the Aloha tandem skydive (which includes a jump and freefall from 8,000 feet and costs $245), the Honolulu Package (which includes a jump from 8,000 feet, 200 4K images of the jump, and a professionally edited skydiving video of your jump for a total of $395), and the Waikiki Package (which includes a 10,000 foot jump, the features of the Honolulu Package, and a Paradise Skydiving t-shirt, for a total of $479). There is a $50 deposit required, with the rest of the fee due the day of the jump.
